What is the Stop Aquatic Hitchhikers!™ Clean Boats Crew Volunteer Education Program?

Stop Aquatic Hitchhikers!™ Clean Boats Crew is a volunteer education program that empowers image of Clean Boats Crewthe public to keep their waters free from aquatic invasive species (AIS). Clean Boats Crew members talk with boaters, anglers, and other recreational water users at local boat ramps about AIS and apply the simple Stop Aquatic Hitchhikers!™ steps to prevent transfer of AIS from one waterbody to another. Clean Boats Crew members can share educational information about invasive species, as well as demonstrate cleaning techniques for boats, trailers, and other equipment. These actions make a big difference in preventing the spread of AIS.

How do I join the Stop Aquatic Hitchhikers!™ Clean Boats Crew?

There are two ways to join the Clean Boats Crew, as a Site Leader or a volunteer. Site Leaders are hired to conduct outreach, direct a crew of volunteers, and provide on-site training as necessary for new recruits.  Clean Boats Crew volunteers donate their time and pledge a small commitment to helping the Clean Boats Crew program.  You can volunteer for a whole weekend, or just a few hours! All Clean Boats Crew site leaders and volunteers are able to attend a short, free training workshop that provides information about AIS, offers guidance on how to effectively educate the public, and educates participants about the Stop Aquatic Hitchhikers!™ AIS prevention steps. We are now recruiting site leaders for Summer 2013.
