Zebra Mussel Educational Video Series

Zebra Mussels are one of the most prevalent and established invasive species in the Great Lakes, and a clear example of what can happen when even a small number of aggressive plants or animals find their way into the Lakes. Even though the mussels are already here doesn’t mean that there are not preventative steps that can be taken and lessons to be learned.

Ilinois-Indiana Sea Grant produced a series of videos on the Zebra Mussel years ago, and until now they were only available on VHS tapes. With the help from Purdue University, the videos can now be viewed online at IISG’s YouTube channel.

The Biology of Zebra Mussels - examines the basic biology of zebra mussels, an invasive species now prevalent in the Great Lakes

The Spread and Impact of Zebra Mussels - provides an overview of the spread of the zebra mussel in the Great Lakes and its impact on the ecology of the lake.

Controlling Zebra Mussels - describes for controlling the spread of the zebra mussel.

Lessons Learned - summarizes the information available to learn more about the zebra mussel including primary literature, travelling trunks, costumes, videos and other publications.
