Illinois-Indiana Sea Grant (IISG) is searching for someone to take over responsibilities for managing the IISG buoy program, including buoy deployment, retrieval, maintenance, and data management. This aquatic ecology specialist position also supports aquatic field and laboratory research and teaching in Purdue University’s Department of Forestry and Natural Resources. JOB DUTIES

  • Deployment, retrieval, and maintenance of Lake Michigan real-time monitoring buoys and associated data (incl. boat operation)
  • Development and delivery of outreach programming related to real-time monitoring buoys
  • Training of students on various field and laboratory sampling techniques
  • Assisting with field and laboratory analysis and synthesis (incl. boat operation, biological sampling analysis, fish and invertebrate identification)
  • Training of student researchers to operate boats and field sampling equipment, including safety training
  • Maintenance of research boats and fisheries field sampling equipment
