Fisheries Specialist and Purdue Great Lakes Liaison

Dominique Turney serves as the Fisheries Specialist and Purdue Great Lakes Liaison with Illinois-Indiana Sea Grant (IISG) and as an Aquatic Ecology Research Scientist in the Department of Forestry and Natural Resources at Purdue University. In her Sea Grant role, she supports and leads Great Lakes-focused research initiatives at Purdue while developing and delivering fisheries extension programming that engages anglers, charter captains, resource managers, and other stakeholders. Her work emphasizes translating science into practical information to support sustainable fisheries and informed management across the Great Lakes region.

Before joining IISG, Dominique worked as a Large River Research Ecologist with the Illinois Natural History Survey at the University of Illinois, where her research focused on invasive carp (copi) in the Upper Mississippi River. Her professional background includes experience in river ecology, aquatic invasive species management, and the use of telemetry to evaluate fish movement and behavior.

Dominique earned a master’s degree in Biological Sciences from Western Illinois University and a dual bachelor’s degree in Fisheries and Wildlife from Purdue University. She is also certified as an Associate Fisheries Professional through the American Fisheries Society.
