Sarah Peterson
Coastal Engineering and Community Resilience Specialist
Sarah Peterson is our coastal engineering and community resilience specialist. In her role, Sarah is focused on developing a program that enhances community coastal hazard preparedness along the Lake Michigan shoreline in Indiana and Illinois through collaboration, research, technical guidance, education, and outreach. An example of her work includes developing the Shaping the Shoreline video series, which helps communities learn about natural processes and coastal protection structures through visualizations and expert interviews.
Sarah holds a BS and PhD in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Her research focused on analyzing coastal geomorphic change near coastal structures under-water level fluctuation in Lake Michigan and Lake Superior.
