Stormwater@Home

Many people want to reduce flooding in their neighborhoods but don’t know where to start. Rainfall management practices and native plants can seem mysterious and out of reach for an average homeowner.

Videos

The Stormwater@Home video series begins with a brief overview of stormwater issues and why it’s important to be part of the solution. Four approaches are featured—rain barrels, rain gardens, permeable driveways, and green roofs. The final episode discusses simple actions we all can do to improve the quality of stormwater runoff. Publications

Inspired by the Red Oak Rain Garden, the goal of this brochure series is to demystify native plants for the home gardener. Each brochure focuses on a specific lighting and moisture condition with Illinois native plants suitable for that environment. The brochures all list plants in the order that they bloom and provide their attributes. Beginners can achieve a beautiful garden by simply following the featured planting plans.
